The All Powerful Word of God
by John T. Lewis
In all its beauty and glory, the Word of God is said to be
"alive, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword...."
(Heb. 4:12). In ancient times the sword was a weapon of
destruction. It could kill the enemy or destroy the evil
doer with a single blow. Yet God provided something much
stronger than any sword. He provided the Holy Book Divine.
Modern society has now progressed far beyond the sword.
Technology is now much more advanced and certainly delivers
more power. Guns propel bullets at several hundred feet
per second. U.S. jet fighter planes deliver more than 18,000
pounds of thrust. Bombs can produce enough explosive material
to devastate an entire city. Does this mean, therefore, that
God's Word is no longer as powerful as it used to be? It
is sharper than the sword, but can it compete with current
products of power?
The Bible, although seen by some as a dead book, is still
powerful. In fact, it is still even more powerful than
anything modern technology can produce. Why? Because the
Bible is able to do what technology will never be
able to do. The Holy Word is able to "save the soul" (Js.
1:21) and "able to make you wise to salvation" (2 Tim. 3:15).
It is able to keep the faithful away from sin (Ps. 119:11),
and provide spiritual light (Ps. 119:105). The Bible
causes people to be born again (1 Pet. 1:23) and encouraged
(Ac. 20:32). Can any weapon currently produced do what the
Bible can do? Of course not. The Bible will always be
a step above the rest. Its power is never ending, eternal,
and will ultimately lead you to heaven!
